On November 13, 2025, high school students from Texas Autism Academy kicked off an inspiring new chapter in their education by starting a hands-on work program at the Interfaith Hand Me Up Shop on Sawdust Road. This initiative marks an exciting opportunity for students to gain real-world experience while making a meaningful impact in their community.

The students stepped into their new roles with enthusiasm, spending their first day sorting and organizing donated clothing and household items. Working side-by-side with dedicated community volunteers, they are learning valuable skills that extend far beyond the classroom—communication, organization, teamwork, and responsibility.

This partnership is designed to help students build confidence and develop essential job-readiness skills in a supportive, inclusive environment. The experience not only empowers them academically and socially but also strengthens their connection to the community they are serving.

According to staff and volunteers, the students’ first day was a tremendous success. Their excitement, energy, and eagerness to help were felt throughout the shop. Many students shared that they are already looking forward to coming back and continuing to contribute to the Interfaith mission.

As this work program grows, Texas Autism Academy hopes to expand opportunities for students to engage in real-world learning, community service, and personal growth. The collaboration with the Interfaith Hand Me Up Shop is just the beginning of what promises to be a rewarding and transformative partnership—for the students, the volunteers, and the community at large.
