A New Chapter of Hope: Spravato Now Available with Dr. Bangale at The Woodlands Wellness & Mind Spa
In The Woodlands, we care deeply about showing up for one another. We support local schools, nonprofits, and neighbors in times of need. Increasingly, we are also learning to show up for something just as important: mental health.
Depression can be invisible. It can hide behind full calendars, professional success, and smiling faces at community events. It affects parents, executives, caregivers, veterans, and teens alike. And for some, even after trying multiple medications and therapies, the weight of depression simply does not lift.
That is why we began offering Spravato, an FDA-approved treatment for certain forms of depression. For individuals who have felt discouraged or stuck, this offering represents something deeply meaningful: renewed possibility.
When Depression Doesn’t Respond
Many people benefit from traditional antidepressants and therapy. But others live with what clinicians call treatment-resistant depression, meaning they have tried at least two antidepressants without adequate relief.
If that’s you, you may know the exhaustion of hoping a new prescription will finally help, only to feel disappointed again. You may question yourself, or even feel like you are running out of options.
It’s important to know that you have not failed treatment. Sometimes the treatment simply hasn’t been the right fit—yet.
Spravato (esketamine) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for:
Adults with treatment-resistant depression
Adults with major depressive disorder who have acute suicidal thoughts or behaviors (used alongside an oral antidepressant)
Unlike traditional antidepressants that primarily target serotonin, Spravato works on the brain’s glutamate system, which is a different pathway involved in mood regulation and neural connection. For some patients, that difference is significant.
Another hopeful aspect of Spravato is that it may begin working more quickly than many conventional medications, which often take weeks to show benefit. Some studies show that Spravato can work within days. While every individual’s response is unique, the possibility of earlier relief can feel life-changing when someone has been carrying emotional pain for years.
Receiving Care Close to Home
We all know that access to care matters. This is why our clinic is in-network with Cigna, Aetna, as well as several other insurance providers. Our team works closely with patients to help verify benefits and clarify coverage options. When you are struggling with depression, traveling far for specialized care can feel overwhelming. Being able to receive advanced treatment close to home makes a practical and emotional difference.
Now, residents of our community here in The Woodlands and surrounding communities can access this FDA-approved option in a setting that is both medically structured and intentionally calming. Treatment is not rushed or impersonal; it is delivered with attentiveness, dignity and respect.
What the Experience Looks Like
Because Spravato is a powerful medication, it must be administered in a certified medical setting under supervision. Safety is central to the process.
Here’s what patients can expect:
Thoughtful Evaluation
Treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation. We review your medical history, prior treatments, current symptoms and goals. This is a collaborative discussion designed to determine whether Spravato is appropriate and safe for you.
In-Clinic Administration
Spravato is given as a nasal spray and self-administered under clinical supervision. It is not taken home. This ensures careful monitoring during each session. Vitals signs are monitoring throughout the session.
Monitoring and Rest
After administration, patients remain in the clinic for approximately two hours. Some individuals may experience temporary side effects such as dizziness, mild dissociation (a dream-like sensation) or nausea. These effects are generally brief and monitored closely. Most importantly, you are not alone during this time. Clinical staff remain present and offer therapeutic communication as a part of every session.
Safety and Responsibility
Spravato is available only through a specialized FDA safety program called REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy). Clinics must meet certification standards, and we take pride in safeguarding our patients’ health and safety through continuous monitoring.
Who Might Consider Spravato?
Spravato may be appropriate for adults who:
- Have tried at least two antidepressants without sufficient improvement
- Experience depression that significantly impacts daily functioning
- Struggle with persistent, moderate symptoms despite standard care
- Are managing major depressive disorder with acute suicidal thoughts under medical supervision
It is not the right choice for everyone—which makes sense. The goal is not to push a single solution but to expand options for those who need them.
Compassion at the Center
What makes this offering meaningful in our clinic is not only the medication itself, but the way it is delivered.
We approach mental health care with the understanding that behind every diagnosis is a human story. There may be grief, trauma, burnout, hormonal shifts, life transitions, or years of silent endurance shaping that story.
Treatment decisions are collaborative, and questions. Families may certainly be involved when appropriate. Healing is understood as both biological and relational.
For many individuals, simply being heard and taken seriously is part of recovery.
A Community Committed to Mental Health
The Woodlands has become increasingly open about discussing mental health in schools, workplaces, and faith communities. We are recognizing that depression is not a personal weakness or a lack of resilience. It is a medical condition that deserves evidence-based care.
Offering Spravato locally reflects that commitment, and it signals that our community values innovation when it can reduce suffering responsibly.
If you know someone who has struggled for years without relief, this information may offer hope. Not pressure — just possibility.
Moving Forward With Hope
In a community built on resilience and connection, expanding access to innovative mental health treatment is more than a clinical update. It is a statement that your wellbeing matters here.
If you or someone you love is wondering whether Spravato might be appropriate, the first step is a conversation. You deserve thoughtful, compassionate, evidence-based care and the opportunity to feel better—even if past treatments have not brought the relief you hoped for.
