HTX Soccer proudly hosted the Special Olympics East Regional Competition on April 11–12, 2026, at Bear Branch fields in The Woodlands, bringing together teams from across Texas for an unforgettable weekend of competition, community, and celebration. ⚽🌟

Two hundred and ten (210) athletes competed in dynamic 5v5 and 7v7 formats across top-tier facilities, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and passion for the game. The event kicked off with vibrant opening ceremonies 🎉, setting the tone for two days filled with energy and inspiration.

Throughout the weekend, teams participated in competitive matches as well as engaging skills sessions, where athletes had the opportunity to earn awards and recognition for their achievements 🏅. A dedicated FUNdamentals session ensured that athletes of all ability levels could develop and enjoy the sport in an inclusive environment. Over 200+ coaches, volunteers were involved across the weekend with three Special Olympics (3) staff on site to make sure the event was a success for everybody involved.

Beyond the field, the Champions Lounge provided a welcoming space for athletes to relax and connect while the Victory Dance brought everyone together in a joyful celebration of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

“This was an outstanding weekend filled with joy and positive energy across the fields,” said Phil Ebner, HTX Soccer Grassroots Director. “We are truly honored to support this event with our club’s resources. Hosting the Special Olympics East Regional Competition for the first time was incredibly meaningful for our organization. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Casey Flax, Program Director at Special Olympics Texas, for her leadership and dedication in making this event possible. We look forward to growing this partnership in the years ahead.”

“We were incredibly excited to host this event and provide a platform for these athletes to showcase their talents,” said Keith Johnson, HTX Soccer Adaptive Program Director and former two-time Paralympian for USA Men’s Soccer. “Opportunities like this are what make the game so special seeing the joy, determination, and passion on display all weekend was truly inspiring.”

The event concluded on Sunday with heartfelt award ceremonies recognizing the efforts and accomplishments of all participants. The competition was a true testament to the power of sport to unite communities and empower athletes, leaving lasting memories for everyone involved.

HTX Soccer is honored to support and celebrate these incredible athletes and looks forward to continuing its partnership with Special Olympics in the years to come.
