THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Lyceum Speaker Series at Lone Star College-Montgomery brings the community a presentation by Dr. Byron McCane, professor of religion at Wofford College, on Tuesday, March 5, from 12-1 p.m., in the Recital Hall, located in the college’s Music Hall (Building H).

The presentation is free to the public. Refreshments will be provided, and a meet-and-greet reception will start at 11:30 a.m. in the same location.

McCane’s lecture, entitled “The Price of Hope,” will argue that the historical Jesus resisted the prevailing social, economic, and political trends of his day, most especially the rising influence of Rome.

“Those of us today who hope for a better future can be inspired, instructed, and warned by Jesus’ example,” said McCane.

McCane has received numerous grants, honors, and awards for his career in Biblical studies. Alongside 20 years of teaching experience, McCane has supervised archeological digs worldwide. Currently, he is the co-director of the Horvat Kur excavation field school in Eastern Galilee.

McCane’s writings include “Roll Back the Stone: Death and Burial in the World of Jesus” (Bloomsberry, 2003). He was also one of the contributors to the Discovery Channel documentary “Who Was Jesus?”

The Lyceum Speaker Series at LSC-Montgomery provides a variety of free lectures throughout the fall and spring semesters that are based on sociological, historical, economical, political, psychological, and spiritual views. All students, staff, and faculty, as well as community members, are invited to attend any Lyceum event throughout the year.
