OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma -- Parati, a Woodlands rowing club serving over 45 Woodlands area teens, took home two silver and two bronze medals at Central Youth Rowing Championships held in Oklahoma City on May 4-5, 2013.

High School Aged Rowers take home two silver and two bronze medals

The Oklahoma City Boathouse District was the site for the annual Central Youth Rowing Championships in which over 400 high school aged rowers from five states competed for the title of regional champion in each event.

In Parati’s inaugural year, after qualifying heats, half the boats advanced to final rounds, an amazing accomplishment. High winds caused the postponement and eventual cancellation of some races; Parati had 14 boats compete 2000 meter sprint races. Parati had 30 rowers in attendance.

After final rounds, four boats won medals. Daniel Dalton and Clay Jones won second place in the men’s varsity double with 7:29:56. Blake Eastwick and Hugo Gomez won second place in the men’s lightweight double with 7:29:76. Audrey Brown and Maddie Miller, won a bronze medal in the women’s lightweight double with 8:26:68. John Puzz won a bronze in the men’s varsity single with 8:25:07.

Gold and silver medal winners qualify to compete in the Nationals hosted in Tennessee in June. Parati is proud to represent The Woodlands’ rowing community at Nationals with Daniel Dalton and Clay Jones in the varsity men’s double and with Blake Eastwick and Hugo Gomez in the men’s lightweight double.

Results for other Parati rowers who competed in finals were:

Sydney Barker and Grace Carbajal, women’s lightweight double in 4th with 8:51:95.
Andrew Gomez, men’s varsity single in 4th with 8:28:03.
Nate Johnson and Ian Miller, men’s lightweight double in 5th 7:56:24.

Parati is a competitive community youth rowing club serving high school aged rowers in The Woodlands, rowing on Lake Woodlands and based at Northshore Park. Parati athletes have been practicing since last summer to prepare for state, regional and national championships.

Head Coach Mike Rosman said, “Our rowers have worked hard all year with this important regatta. I am proud of all the rowers for giving their best effort. The 28 mph winds and choppy water were a challenge to navigate but our rowers showed endurance thanks to our rigorous training program. I look forward to seeing two of our boats compete at Nationals. Looking to next year, we have two competitive sophomore girls, Audrey Brown and Maddie Miller, who won silver. This was Brown’s first year rowing, they are a force to be reckoned with.”

The other Parati rowers at the regatta were: Maddie Austin, Andreas Bandera, Hector Bandera, Reilly Barker, Claire Beaty, Jacob Castro, Nate Eastwick, Marcello Falchetti, Nick Fazzino, Collin Jones, James Montano, John Montano, Lauren Musial, Luke O’Connell, Sydney Pareti, Ty Raymond, JD Telford, and Liam Watkins.

Students in grades 8-12 who are interested in participating on Parati’s rigorous and competitive co-ed rowing team may contact Parati via email at paratirows@gmail.com or by calling 832-510-6288. No prior rowing experience is required.
