Local photographer captures life's special moments

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- It's said that a picture is worth a thousand words; so why pass over an opportunity to capture special moments in your life?

Kara Powell of Kara Powell Photography is a passionate photographer who takes the photography industry to new and exciting heights. With her love of newborn and maternity photography and her unique eye for the natural element of capturing images, she brings experience, passion, and originality to the table with her photographs. She creates magical moments and does it well.

“This may sound cliché, but I've been doing photography since elementary and middle school,” Powell said. She continued her photography throughout her years of schooling while she earned two degrees in education. Through her education degrees, Powell has the ability to connect with children and understand each stage of a child’s life. She began her photography business in 2009, after her son was born.

Powell shares both love and commitment to family, children, and photography. Around 80 percent of her work is newborn or maternity sessions. She prides herself in this type of photography and knows all the tricks to get the job done well.

Her passion for newborn photography stemmed from her starting her own family. Powell was diagnosed with endometriosis and was devastated when she was told it would be difficult for her to conceive a child. Through that experience, she has become an author as well as an inspiration. Her book, “Expecting a Miracle,” showcases 15 families and their personal journey though infertility.

“My hope is that even if your journey takes 6 months or 6 years, please don’t give up hope," Powell said. "A family can be made in many different ways.”

Powell offers other forms of photography as well; family photos, beach photos, couture photos, senior photos, and more. If there is a special occasion in your family, she is able to get the job done.
