Northwest Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery teams up with Montgomery County Food Bank

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- The Montgomery County Food Bank will soon be in high cotton. They are currently renovating a 60,000 square foot building located just off of I-45 North and SH 242. On Monday, December 16, Dr. M. James Clark of Northwest Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery toured the new location with Rodney Dickerson, the recently appointed president of The Montgomery County Food Bank. Mr. Dickerson explained that this larger space will accommodate the growing demand for food.

Three years ago, MCFB provided food to an average of 20,000 hungry people each month. They now consistently serve 40,000 per month. This November, MCFB set a record serving 50,721 individuals. Mr. Dickerson reports that approximately 37% of Montgomery County residents are food -insecure. Approximately 47 food pantries receive food from MCFB including Interfaith, St. Anthony’s Bread, Tamina Community Center, and the Friendship Center in South County (The Woodlands) and Montgomery County Emergency Assistance, the Dream Center, and Conroe Church of Christ in Conroe and Willis. The new facility is scheduled to open in late March of 2014.

Following the tour, Dr. Clark presented a check to Mr.Dickerson and Sarah Redfield, Sponsorship & Events Manager. “The surgeons and staff at Northwest Oral Surgery are committed to supporting the communities in which we practice. We are pleased that our donation will provide approximately 10,000 meals because of the immense buying power of the food bank.”

In addition to the financial contribution, employees volunteered at the ABC13 Share Your Holidays Food Drive on December 6 at Market Street in The Woodlands. “It was a fun and rewarding experience. We are looking forward to volunteering again next year,” said Donna Kotsios, Northwest Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Practice Administrator.
