Lady Highlanders fall to Kingwood in Bi-District playoffs

PORTER, Texas - The Woodlands Lady Highlander basketball team entered the postseason on Tuesday night, as The Woodlands was matched-up with future district opponent Kingwood at Porter High School on Tuesday night.

After the Lady Highlanders jumped out to a 10-3 early lead on the heels of a 8-0 first-quarter run, Kingwood (24-9) outscored the Lady Highlanders 20-8 in the seocnd quarter to take a 28-21 halftime lead.

The Woodlands (21-9) battled back, however shot just 1-for-13 from the three-point line, but where within a single possession, several times.

With Kingwood having a 41-37 lead with 5:45 left in the fourth quarter, no team would score for the next 5:05, until Lady Highlander guard Kristin Mahoney's driving lay-up with 40 seconds remaining in the game pulled The Woodlands to within 41-39.

Following a timeout, the Lady Highlanders put on a full-court press, however Kingwood broke the press and threw a long pass for a wide-open lay-up to make it a two-possession game at 43-39 with 31 seconds left.

Payton Walker then answered for the Lady Highlanders when Walker got a unique jump shot to go and was fouled. Walker completed the three-point play and The Woodlands was down 43-42 with 15.7 seconds left. The Lady Highlanders immediately fouled on the inbounds play and Kingwood made both free throws to extend the Kingwood lead to 45-42.

The Lady Highlanders then go the length of the court, however could not get a shot off and end up turning the ball over and Kingwood upsets The Woodlands 45-42.
