HOUSTON - The John Cooper Girls’ Soccer Team headed to Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) championship play as the #2 team in the SPC South Zone and came out Division I runner-ups, the best finish for Cooper since joining the SPC.

2nd Place finish is best in school history

The team defeated Holland Hall, 2-1, then faced Episcopal High School, who had just defeated the #1 seed, Greenhill. Episcopal fell to the Dragons, 2-1 to head to the championship game against Episcopal of Dallas. The girls lost 0-5, to bring home a Division I runner-up trophy.

“The whole team put together some really great minutes and everyone contributed to get us to the championship game,” said Amber Clevenger, head coach for Cooper. “Pamela Pimienta had three great assists that led us to the final game. Alison Robinson scored three great header goals and Sonia Johnson and Isabelle Sands both had a goal each. It was an excellent combined effort. Lindsay Hale came up huge for us, shutting down the other teams in the center of the field and Grace Dunlap was really there for us defensively.”

Clevenger remembers a rough beginning to this memorable season. “As I look back on this year I think about the road that got us to the SPC championship,” said Clevenger. “We played without key players a number of games, we won great games and lost epic battles, we lost a senior captain to a crazy injury and we brought back a senior from a bad injury. But we had fun, encouraged one another, embraced change, jumped hurdles and made John Cooper Soccer history by making it to the championship game and bringing home a trophy.”
