Seefeldt leads Cooper past Bellaire
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The John Cooper School baseball team hosts Pope John XXIII at 7 p.m. Thursday before heading out to a tournament in Vero Beach for its annual Spring Break trip to Florida.
The Dragons (6-4-1) salvaged the final game of a tournament last weekend hosted by St. Thomas and St. Pius High Schools.
Jake Seefeldt earned the win on the mound, working six innings in a 6-4 win over eight-time UIL Class 5A state champions Bellaire. The senior struck out three and yielded just five hits and two earned runs.
Seefeldt is 3-1 for the season with a 3.58 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings of work.
"Jake had a big weekend," Dragons baseball coach Brent Landrum said.
In addition to his mound work, Seefeldt went 2-for-8 in the three tournament games, including a double and RBI.
The Dragons dropped the first two games of the tournament, including a 7-1 loss to Lutheran South and a 13-2 defeat at the hands of St. Thomas. Cooper's Nicholas Beaty homered and tripled in the latter game.
Beaty went 4-for-11 over the tournament and Colton Austin was 3-for-7 with a double and RBI.
