UPDATE:

All proceeds benefit the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured Texas wildlife.

Friends of Texas Wildlife's Resale Shop celebrated its Grand Opening this Friday and Saturday, August 1 and 2. Sales were steady both days of the sale according to Jo Snyder, who has been instrumental in setting up the store.

No doubt The Woodlands and the surrounding area will have some of the best dressed dogs in the state.

"We have an abundance of dog clothing," said Snyder, "and people have been buying it."

Just in time for back-to-school shopping, new underwear in all sizes. Pricing is 25 percent or less than retail.

"We'll be open again in a couple of weeks," said Snyder. "We'll be open the first and third weekend of the month, so the community can come back and shop again before school starts."

The next weekend will be Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY:

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - Every now and then, the Friends of Texas Wildlife get a wild idea: it just comes with the territory. To help defer the rising cost of treating and rehabilitating injured wildlife brought to FTWL, they’ve opened a resale shop, but how’s this for a wild idea? Their ‘resale’ store is selling just new and never used items.

Working with retail sources, FTWL has received donations of new merchandise that they’ll be selling to the public at ‘garage sale’ prices. The soft opening was Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26, but the Grand Opening will be this weekend, Friday, August 1, and Saturday, August 2. The store will be open on the first and third Fridays and Saturdays of each month, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The resale shop is conveniently located at 29816 Dobbin-Huffsmith Road, west of The Woodlands and midway between Magnolia and Tomball. Among the new items are clothing, some household goods, party supplies, and pet toys.

“Surprisingly, winter pet clothing was one of the best sellers at the soft opening,” said Jo Snyder, who is overseeing the Resale Shop. “People were also buying school clothes for the kids.”

Endeavors like the resale shop enable non-profit organizations to assist each other.

“We had another non-profit organization purchase some essential items for their needs, so it was a instance of one charity helping another charity,” said Snyder.

Because of the limited space, and being open just a couple of weekends a month, FTWL is unable to take donations from the community of used clothing and merchandise, but there are numerous other charities that will willingly take the items. What the FTWL Resale Shop will take, are volunteers. Individuals who can volunteer some time at the shop can call 281-259-0039. You do not have to be a member of FTWL to help out in their resale store.

This weekend, take a walk on the wild side and shop the Grand Opening at the FTWL Resale Shop. All proceeds will benefit the Friends of Texas Wildlife with their rehabilitation or orphaned and injured Texas wildlife.
