MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Meals on Wheels Montgomery County (MOWMC) held their second annual “The Great Pumpkin Shoot – Aiming To Feed Seniors” sporting clay tournament sponsored by SWBC Mortgage on October 27, 2017 at the Blackwood Gun Club in Conroe, TX. The fundraising event was a great success with over 130 people in attendance and raised more than $49,000, enough to provide 5,660 meals – an entire year’s worth – to homebound seniors in need in Montgomery County.

Meals on Wheels Montgomery County provides home-delivered meals and transportation services to the homebound and disabled elderly of Montgomery County.

“Our goal is to provide fundraising events that are fun and different. Here, we aimed to create an event both men and women could enjoy whether they were avid shooters or new to the sport,” explained Bonnie Pfrenger, Development Director for MOWMC. “That’s why we offered both a 50-clay and a 100-clay course, which attracted more participants.”

Connie Parker, Events & Marketing Manager at Blackwood Gun Club confirmed there were a larger number of women participating than she normally sees. “Almost one-third of the shooters were women,” she said. “That was really incredible.”

Mark Keough was the top male shooter with a score of 93, while Mark Weisser came in a close second with 92. Jennifer Kutac was the top female shooter with 63 clays shot. Female shooter Bobbie Castro also scored a 63. The tie was broken by the degree of difficulty.

“We are so thankful for the local businesses that stepped up to make The Great Pumpkin Shoot a success, especially our returning presenting sponsor SWBC Mortgage, which helped us grow it from 16 teams last year to 25 this year,” stated Summer Day, Executive Director of MOWMC. “Their support along with all of the participants helped turned the day into a big win for local homebound seniors.”

Sponsors included presenting sponsor SWBC Mortgage as well as Woodforest National Bank, The Woodlands Dermatology Associates, Vitruvian Exploration, Waste Connections, Planet Lincoln, Strike, The Strong Firm, P.C., Entergy, Target Logistics, Great American Title, Milstead Service Center, Montgomery Physical Therapy, Green Financial, Aguila Ammunition, Pillar to Post Home Inspectors, Benchmark Bank, Allstate The Floyd Agency, and Sutliff and Stout, Injury & Accident Lawyers.
