THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- VARSITY SWIMMING & DIVING

11/30 at Holiday Relay Meet at U of Houston • 7th place

From Coach Sara Bany: Cooper swimmers were in the pool again this weekend at the Holiday Relay Meet at the University of Houston. The swimmers in this meet were Katia Guerrero, Noelle Harris, Nicholas Harris, Dorothea Johnson, Boris Leoro, Syuen See, Chris Seymour, Mitchell Shannon, Ellie Wang and Drew Wilkerson.

All 10 swimmers scored points on their relays by finishing in the Top 8 and earned 7th place overall out of the 18 teams that were there. This fun meet was all relays and had different events than a normal swim meet.

Highlights for Cooper were the Mixed 200-yard free relay, where two boys and two girls swam. Mitchell Shannon, Katia Guerrero, Syuen See and Chris Seymour finished over six seconds faster than any other team! Shannon and Seymour hopped out of the pool to swim in the very next event along with senior, Boris Leoro on the 150 butterfly relay. These three pulled out a very exciting, come from behind victory when Chris out-touched the swimmer from St. Thomas to win the relay by only four one-hundredths of a second. The girls’ relay of Dorothea Johnson (50 free), Syuen See (100 free), and Katia Guerrero (150 free) followed suit in a more comfortable three second victory in the Crescendo relay. Also victorious for the girls was the 200 free relay team of Johnson, See, Guerrero and Noelle Harris.

All in all, this was a fun Holiday-themed meet where the swimmers got to work on their sprints and relay starts against teams we don’t typically swim against.
