Four Cooper Athletes Commit to Compete at College Level on National Signing Day
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The John Cooper School Athletic Department held a signing ceremony on Wednesday, February 6, National Signing Day, in the Dunlap Gymnasium, to recognize four senior athletes who will be competing at the college level in the fall of 2019. Parents, faculty, coaches and teammates joined Athletic Director John Hoye to honor the student athletes who will compete in baseball and swimming.
“These athletes have all worked hard while at Cooper and we join them in celebrating their successes,” Hoye said. “We wish them all the very best and look forward to following their college athletic careers.”
William Staebel will swim for Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Three Dragon baseball players, Evan Godwin, Braden Sebesta and Jonathan Spangler Sakata, will play baseball at the college level. Godwin will play at Baylor University, Waco, Texas, Braden Sebesta will represent Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota, and Jonathan Spangler-Sakata will play for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
These four athletes join four Dragons who signed on National Early Signing Day last fall. Evan Minarovic and Reed Smith will both play baseball for Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, and Logan Leax will play baseball at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Peyton Tague will play volleyball for Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, Massachusetts.
