The Woodlands Arts Council Art Dash/Preview Party Puts the ‘FUN’ in Fundraiser
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – 'Let the Art Choose You!' at this year's Art Dash and Preview Party on April 12 sponsored by The Woodlands Arts Council (TWAC). This festive fundraising event will kick off the 2019 Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival to be held April 13 and 14 at Town Green Park and along The Waterway.
Arts patrons, friends of TWAC, board members and 2019 artists, including featured artist Nolan Prohaska, will gather for an evening to celebrate and gain a 'sneak peek' at the art featured in this year's Festival. The evening will feature live music provided by Darryl Bayer, Artistic Director of The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra, tastings created by local chefs and the opportunity to participate in a 60-Second Art Dash, a unique experience for 'dashers' to find a piece of art donated by one of the Festival artists.
'This event is as creative as the art featured in the Art Dash,' said Art Dash Committee Chair and TWAC Board Member Alex Bunch. 'It's a fabulous evening celebration, but even more significant is that it is a fundraiser for the extensive arts outreach programs provided throughout the year by The Woodlands Arts Council.'
Proceeds from the event will benefit the approximately $20,000 in scholarships awarded each year to high school juniors and seniors, and the David Gottlieb Teacher Scholarship awarded to one visual and performing arts public school teacher annually. Proceeds will also help fund school field trips, programs for senior adults, in-school performances for economically challenged schools in Montgomery County, and persons with special needs.
The 2019 Festival Featured Artist, Nolan Prohaska, a glass artist who was selected by jury at last year's Festival, has donated a glass sculpture that will also be part of a drawing at the event. 'We are grateful to all the artists who donate a piece of their amazing work to the Art Dash each year,' said TWAC Board President Deb Spiess. 'We are also grateful to our sponsors and arts patrons from our community who support the arts by attending. Our unique annual event definitely puts the 'fun' in fundraiser!'
