CORSICANA, TX -- The Woodlands 2019 postseason run came to an end on Saturday. McKinney Boyd was responsible for knocking off the District 15-6A champion and one of the favorites to make the state tourney. The Broncos’ 6-1 victory was their second-straight win after dropping Game 1 of the series.

It was a tough day overall for the Highlanders. The Woodlands trailed by five before they found their first hit of the game. They finished Game 3 with just four hits in total. The Broncos pitcher Chase Peterson troubled Highlanders all day during his complete-game performance. Peterson allowed four hits, struck out five, and allowed just one run, a fifth-inning RBI single by PJ Villarreal that scored Will Swope.

The Woodlands used a trio of pitchers in Game 3. Cody Howard started on the mound, before being replaced in fifth by Matthew Bulovas. A quick outing from Bulovas saw Hampton Long enter the game to finish the day. As a unit, the Highlanders pitchers gave up five earned runs on 11 hits, and just seven strikeouts.

The loss ends the Highlander’s season in the fourth round of the UIL State Baseball Playoffs. The team finished with a record of 30-8 overall. Boyd advances to the Region 2 final against Cypress Ranch.
