THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Late Friday evening The Woodlands Fire Department responded to the North Woodlands HEB at 1488 and Kuykendahl for a reported gas leak. On arrival firefighters learned that a technician working on a refrigeration system had inadvertently ruptured a coolant line causing a significant loss of refrigerant. The HEB staff had evacuated the store prior to firefighters arrival so crews went to work making sure that the leak had been contained while the TWFD hazmat team began air monitoring. Due to the size of the store TWFD requested Ponderosa Fire’s “Big Fan” a trailer mounted ventilation fan designed for these types of events. Once the Ponderosa crew arrived the building was quickly ventilated and staff was allowed back in. HEB Management expected that the store would open at its regular time Saturday morning. TWFD was also assisted by Needham Fire & Rescue/ Montgomery County ESD#4 and Montgomery County Hospital District.
