THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Jett Feltman’s 3-4, one HR, and four RBI night helped the War Eagles pick up a 6-5 win on the road at The Woodlands. Michael Lopez (2.2 innings, 3 earned runs, 3 strikeouts) earned the win on the mound. However, it was a combined pitching effort including Hunter Wells, Kyler Howard, and Aiden Lucas that allowed Oak Ridge to move to 2-0 in district play.

Despite the loss, Gray Nooe shined as well, going 2-2 at the plate with four RBIs including a three-run HR.

Oak Ridge set the tone right away in the top of the first inning. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt put a runner in scoring position, Feltman crushed the first pitch far over the scoreboard in right field to give the War Eagles a quick 2-0 lead.

After Lopez kept the Highlanders off the board, The Ridge went right back to work in the top of the second. Two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a two-run RBI Double by Howard was enough to end Justin Barry-Smith’s night on the mound.

The Woodlands found new life in the bottom of the third inning when Nooe stepped into the batter’s box and sent a three-run HR into left field. Oak Ridge’s lead was cut to one, but before The Woodlands could take control of the game, Wells came in to get an important strikeout to end the inning.

Feltman wasn’t done making an impact just yet, as he came to the plate and gave Oak Ridge some breathing room again. Feltman found a gap in left field to bring home two more runs.

The Woodlands didn’t go away quietly, but the story of the late innings in Wednesday night’s game was Oak Ridge’s ability to get out of a jam repeatedly. Wells’ strikeout with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth and Howard’s bases-loaded strikeout in the fifth refused to let the Highlanders flip the script. Lucas closed the game and his two strikeouts secured the victory for the War Eagles.

Up next for Oak Ridge, a home game vs Willis on Friday. The Woodlands will try to bounce back on the road at Grand Oaks.

Other District Scores:

Grand Oaks 5, Conroe 1
(Cole Whorrall - 5.2 IP, 1 ER, 11 SOs)

College Park 8, Willis 5
(Hank Hudson - 2-2, 1 RBI)
