HS Baseball Playoffs: Cy Woods Comes back to Take Game 1 Over Oak Ridge
KINGWOOD, TX -- The Oak Ridge War Eagles defeated the Dekaney Wildcats to face another Wildcat team, Cy Woods. They met on at the neutral site of West Fork High School to face off in a best of three series for the Area Round.
Cy Woods pitcher Mason Green started things off for the Wildcats but struggled early on the mound. With a wild pitch, Hayden Morris was able to steal first while a runner crossed the plate giving Oak Ridge a quick 1-0 lead. With a sac-fly Oak Ridge was able to close out the top of the first in the lead 2-0.
In the second inning, Oak Ridge was able to rally again as a wild pitch over the catcher brought one in from third base. Hayden Morris once again hit a single through the second base gap to bring in two more runners giving the War Eagles a comfortable 5-0 lead.
Cy Woods would turn things around in the third. With a triple to start things off, Morris would struggle on the mound for Oak Ridge first throwing a wild pitch and balking with bases loaded. But things wouldn’t end there, McClane Helton would hit a ground roll double and bring two more runners in tying the game at 5-5.
Oak Ridge would struggle on the mound even with a pitcher change, as Cy Woods was battling every at bat.
It wouldn’t be until the bottom of the fifth when Helton hit another ball into the outfield and once again brings two more runners in. Cy Woods would take their first lead of the game 7-5. The game would end up being 7-5 as both sides would retire each other in the sixth and seventh.
Oak Ridge looks to bring home a win on Friday as they face each other once again at West Fork High School.
