HS Soccer Scoreboard: The Woodlands programs complete perfect district seasons; Battle of the Oaks postponed

Oak Ridge 0-0 Grand Oaks, 17:22 1H

Friday night was supposed to be a bright moment for either the War Eagles or Grizzlies. A rivalry trophy and playoff spots were up for grabs, but instead, both teams were literally and figuratively left in the dark. Woodforest Stadium had issues with the stadium lights, leaving the field too dark to finish the game.

Before the darkness set in, the first 20 minutes of play saw Oak Ridge put Grand Oaks under a consistent amount of pressure. The War Eagles kept the ball at midfield and in their attacking third for the first 10 minutes of the game. However, while still facing a heavy attack, Grand Oaks began to find ways to get out on the counterattack to make the game an end-to-end battle that was surely going to lead to a goal for one team.

Unfortunately, play was stopped and after discussion between both teams, it was determined that the game would be moved to Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

The Woodlands 5, College Park 1

The Highlanders had already clinched the district title, but the four-goal win over their rival secured an undefeated district record and improved their winning streak to 16 games.

Bryan Fuentes (x2), Nico Gonzalez, Tommy Cabrales, and Sebastian Carranza were the goal scorers in The Woodlands 19th win of the year.

College Park, currently tied with Oak Ridge for the last two playoff spots, will have their eyes on the result at Woodforest tomorrow.

Conroe 4, Willis 0

Like The Woodlands, the Tigers had already locked up their playoff spot, so the goal was to finish the regular season on a high note. Conroe did that thanks to goals from Carlos Salinas, Ulises Quintanilla, Melvin Mejia, and Axel Mandujano.

Girls Soccer

The Woodlands 4, College Park 0

The Highlanders shut out their rivals by the same score as the first meeting to clinch their fifth-straight district title. The win also completes an undefeated district 13-6A run to go along with a near-perfect overall record (17-1).

The Woodlands was led by a first-half goal from Marley Krach and a second-half hat trick from Katherine Williams.

Despite the loss, College Park ends a four-year playoff drought, finishing second in the district.

Grand Oaks 1, Oak Ridge 0

The final two playoff teams in district 13-6A met for the final time in the regular season. The Grizzlies earned the win and the season sweep over their rival with a first-half goal by Natalie Bruschke.

Grand Oaks will make their first 6A playoff appearance as the three seed. Oak Ridge takes the fourth and final playoff spot.

Conroe 1, Willis 0

Litzy Garcia’s goal ended the Tigers’ season on a high note. The goal gave Conroe their first win of the season.
