HS Baseball/Softball Scoreboard: Grand Oaks boys win with late run, Oak Ridge girls move into first place
THE WOODLANDS, TX --
Baseball
Grand Oaks 4, College Park 3
Carter Gorling’s RBI single in the first inning was the game’s lone run until business picked up in the fourth inning. On the first pitch of the inning, Connor McBryde put Grand Oaks on the board with a home run to left field. The solo shot tied the game at one, setting the stage for a wacky couple of innings in the rain.
In the top of the fifth, a pop-up to left field should have been the Grizzlies’ final out of the inning. However, the College Park fielders collided with each other while attempting to make the catch, and allowed Grand Oaks to take a 2-1 lead. AJ McCrady tripled in the top of the sixth which allowed Preston Havenor to pick up an RBI and increase their lead to 3-1.
The Cavaliers bounced back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth thanks to another moment of chaos. After Edgar Bermudez singled with two outs to bring a run home, Grand Oaks was called for a balk that brought home College Park’s tying run.
Not to be outdone, Antonio Sabala returned the favor with a two-out RBI single of his own in the top of the seventh to give Grand Oaks the win.
Cole Whorrall had a strong night on the mound for the Grizzlies. Whorrall struck out 10 batters and only allowed one hit in 5.2 IP.
