MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- On Wednesday August 4th, 2021, Montgomery County Animal Services ('MCAS') responded to a follow up call regarding numerous animals on a property in Porter, Texas. In the initial report a citizen was reporting multiple dogs, cats and raccoons at the location and was concerned about their welfare. Upon investigation, the Animal Control Officer who responded with Montgomery County Precinct Two Constables found there was a foul odor coming from the home with numerous animals on property living in deplorable conditions.

A civil seizure warrant was obtained and was served by a Pct. 2 Constable. As a result, MCAS seized 74 live cats, 2 live dogs and 198 deceased frozen cats. The owner is a sub-permitted wildlife rehabber. The permitted rehabber who the owner was sub-permitted under came to the location and took possession of the 8 live raccoons to continue the rehab process. The animals were transported to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter for intake and veterinarian evaluations. The Houston Humane Society has graciously offered assistance and is currently housing and performing the veterinarian evaluations for 50 of the live cats. All the animals are receiving medical care to begin the process of rehabilitation.

A hearing date has been set for Tuesday August 10th, 2021 at 10:00am in the Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Court to determine custody of the animals. As a result of this seizure, and the continued increase in animal intakes, the shelter is at capacity. While the seized animals will not be available for adoption, foster or rescue until final determination of custody, MCAS is requesting assistance from the community, in the form of rescues, fosters or citizens adopting currently available animals.

This case is currently an active investigation.

Please continue to make us aware of hoarding, collecting, neglect, abandonment and any other form of animal cruelty. Working collaboratively the task force is fighting back against animal cruelty.
