THE WOODLANDS, TX – Well, we’ve finally made it to the end of 2021, and many of us are hankering for a significant shift. While COVID and its related economic impacts may linger into the new year, the weather has decided to oblige with a marked change come this weekend.

A noticeable shift in the weather between 2021 and 2022

Today, New Year’s Eve, sees what will most likely be our final hot-and-dry day for quite a while, with partly sunny skies and a high temperature that will hit a record high of 81 degrees. After the sun sets, however, look for temps to plummet down around 25 degrees into the mid-50s.

2022 will dawn – literally – at 7:18 in the morning, but while the temps may get back up to around 80 again (just like ‘the year before,’ to flog a bad joke), we have a statistical coin toss of thunderstorms coming in as the day progresses. The front that will accompany the projected storms will bring a whole new weather dynamic.

We here at Woodlands Online encourage you to shake off any planned hangovers long enough on Saturday to prepare for freezing temperatures that night. While it’s not exactly a hard freeze that would make folks panic for their plants, pets, and pipes, it will dip down a degree below freezing for a little bit, and we’ll wake up to sunny skies and brisk temperatures on Sunday. The good news is, for those who resolved to start the year off by getting healthier, this will be perfect jogging weather, with no planned precipitation and a high in the upper 50s.

Sunday night and Monday continue the “it’s not 2021 anymore” trend with another night of freezing weather and a day of bright and cloudless skies with highs in the mid-50s. For those of us having to schlep back to work on Monday, try to keep a stiff upper lip as you wait for the weekend. And for those who are squeezing out another day or so of vacation or school break, be sure to spend the day outdoors for decent air quality and a cooler day.

Tuesday, which also happens to be the final day of Conroe ISD winter break, will treat the kiddos right, with a low of about 40 degrees segueing into a partly cloudy day with a high of 67.

Weather that is outright springlike will greet us on Wednesday. The low the night before will match Monday’s high – 54 degrees – and a bright sun will help the temps come up into the mid-70s.

For the next few days after that, we’ll have temperatures wandering about with lows in the 40s and 50s and highs in the 60s and 70s, but fortunately no rains in that foreseeable future.

And with that, this is our final weather forecast of the year. All of us at Woodlands Online wish you a safe weekend, and we hope you’ll joins us next week at this time to learn what the first full weekend of ‘22 has in store for us.
