THE WOODLANDS. TX -- The Woodlands Highlanders traveled to Georgetown, outside of Austin, this weekend for their first State Championship appearance in many years. The excited team hit Birkelback field in anticipation for a battle against the Lake Travis Cavaliers. The stare championship is played in 2 phases; the elite 4 and the final showdown.

It's been over 10 years since The Woodlands has been on a stage like this. Win one game and go to the finals, lose and still make school history.

In the first half Lake Travis came out aggressive and showed The Woodlands that they needed to work for the win. This would be the second time this season that the teams faced each other.

Earlier, in the preseason Lake Travis delivered The Woodlands their only loss, disturbing their nearly perfect season.

As the half went on, Lake Travis pressured the goal and was able to capitalize on a handball in the box. Up one to zero, the Lake Travis Cavaliers didn't let up the pressure as The Woodlands tried to advance the ball.

The second half was a mirror to the first as Lake Travis kept to their plan, putting up a brick wall and preventing the Highlanders from getting close to the goal. Minutes in Lake Travis scored a second goal putting The Woodlands in a deeper hole.

Unfortunately, in the final minutes of the game, Lake Travis was able to score yet again, solidifying their advancement to the State Finals.

The Woodlands made their mark on history by reaching the state Semifinals. They fell short to the only team to give them a loss.
