THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Highlanders hosted the College Park Cavaliers in the first edition of War of the Woods on Saturday afternoon. The weather was near perfect for the matchup and both teams seemed amped and ready to play as they warmed up before kickoff. The Woodlands is sitting comfortable in first place while College Park is creeping up in second.

In the first half The Woodlands dominated the field keeping it on their offense the majority of the time. They would have many shots on goal but College Park was able to hold off their attacks for most of the half. It wasn’t until an assist by Jankoski that Henrique Caputo would score a goal for The Woodlands to give them the lead heading into halftime.

Although College Park would attack The Woodlands net, they found themselves unsuccessful. It would then on be a back and forth match with both teams turning the ball over and fighting for positions as each player would put pressure on the ball handler. The even match up would head into halftime with The Woodlands up 1-0.

In the second half, College Park would come out shooting and converted on a shot on goal instantly tying the game 1-1 with more than enough time in the half left. The Woodlands would once again go on the attack but College Park would tighten up their defense preventing them from getting close to the goal.

This half College Park would own the ball and put pressure on the goalkeeper. With a couple of yellow cards, the matchup began to get more aggressive and the momentum kicked into another gear in anticipation for another goal.

The evenly match teams would once again fight for the ball but it was The Woodlands that would become successful after being on the positive end of a penalty in the box. Once again Henrique Caputo would come away with a successful penalty kick to give The Woodlands a 2-1 lead.

With a couple of minutes left, College Park would try to attack the goal but in the end The Woodlands defense would hold them off. The Woodlands would take the win the War of the Woods 2-1 and continue to lead the district rankings.

Next week, The Woodlands will travel to Caney Creek while College Park hosts Oak Ridge.
