THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On June 8, 2022, the defendant, Cole Wesley Janik, entered the Montgomery County Tax Office with a large brown colored suitcase at 1520 Lake Front Circle located in The Woodlands, TX. Janik spoke with an employee and then later exited the building. Upon exiting, Janik placed the suitcase on top of a trashcan positioned directly in front of the main entry door of the tax office. Janik then left the area. An employee of the tax office observed Janikā€™s actions and alerted the Montgomery County Pct. 3 Constableā€™s Office. Pct. 3 deputies responded to the scene, located the suitcase, and secured the area. The Montgomery County Fire Marshalā€™s Office was contacted and an emergency response was activated. After several hours, Bomb Technicians eventually cleared the suitcase of any explosive devices. Pct. 3 investigators conducted an investigation with the assistance of the Montgomery County Fire Marshalā€™s Office. As a result of the investigation, Janik was criminally charged with placing a Hoax Bomb in front of the tax office. On June 16, 2022, Janik was taken into custody by Pct. 3 deputies and booked into the Montgomery County Jail without incident.

Constable Ryan Gable would like to thank the Montgomery County Fire Marshalā€™s Office for their assistance and support throughout this investigation.
