THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Education for Tomorrow Alliance (EfTA) celebrated 2022 student interns and hosts at the Student Internship Program summer luncheon held on June 24 at the Crowne Plaza Shenandoah. One hundred and seventy-two students placed throughout the community participated in the program designed to give rising 12th graders career insights.

The luncheon keynote speaker Colonel Brain Duffy, USAF (Ret.) spoke of his experiences working for NASA as an astronaut and pilot, shared photos from space, and offered life insights. Col. Duffy urged students to 'Be a bulldog!' and not give up on a problem until it is solved or a goal until it is achieved. Lunch guests also heard testimonials from three interns, including Abbie Johnson, a 2016 SIP participant who is now working full-time at Conroe ISD in the Communications Department where she interned before her senior year of high school.

EfT staff partners with business and community volunteers in a wide range of fields willing to share their career knowledge. EfTA received more than 200 applications from students eager to gain real-world experience. For the first time in three years, students had the option to work in-person for 80 hours over two weeks, or choose a virtual small group mentoring option. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and practice valuable skills that are critical not only to their future professions, but in life as a whole. Some of these internships also offered students the chance to practice the skills in real-life settings. For example, students matched with mentors from PBK architects learned how to use industry software to build their own dream home. Throughout June, EfTA offered additional career panels and workshops for students to further develop their professional skills. Students will continue to work alongside professionals in their chosen fields through the end of July.

For 33 years, EfTA has offered internships and other educational programming to serve Montgomery County students. Education for Tomorrow is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating education and community partnerships that advance student success. With innovative programs focused on career, leadership, and STEM preparation, EfTA is the portal through which business leaders can access and strengthen local education. to learn more, visit www.efta-us.org.
