THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Results from the week of October 10
Dragon Football Remains Undefeated In Conference Play
VARSITY FOOTBALL
10/14 at Houston Christian* • 26-22 W
“Adversity introduces a man to himself.” For the second week in a row the Dragons faced adversity but once again stood tallest when times were bleak as they escaped Mustang Field with a 26-21 win over Houston Christian Friday night. The Dragons started fast, got up early, but struggled to consistently execute and found themselves down late in the fourth. Cooper would find the end zone late and cap the game with a final defensive stand letting them kneel out the final seconds. Kielar Sullivan found the end zone first for the Dragons on a great pass from Vaughn McKeever; Sullivan also scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning TD on a run from 30 yards out late in the fourth quarter. For the first time all year the Dragon defense found themselves on their heels dealing with a clock-running balanced attack from the Mustangs. Since the Dragons were missing key starters out with injuries, others had to step up to the challenge in a trial-by-fire Friday night in Houston. Owen Baadsgaard was the defensive player of the night, making multiple tackles, hauling in two interceptions, the second one ending the last Mustang offensive threat. Hayden Hammit was all over the field as well, finding an interception of his own on an outstanding play cutting under a Mustang receiver. Despite the struggles, the Dragons were able to get the win and punch their ticket to the 3A SPC Championship for the second calendar year in a row. Before that, they will take on Trinity Valley at home on Senior Night; this game will serve as a preview of the championship as the Trojans too have punched their championship ticket. See you Friday night at The John Cooper School’s Pugh Field. –Coach Daniel Lewis
