SPRING, TX -- The Dekaney Wildcats and the Spring Lions battled it out at Planet Ford Stadium Friday night to see who would break up the rankings and take second place behind the Westfield Mustangs. Dekaney and Spring were tied for second place in the 14-6A district both of which would play the 13-6A district in the playoffs if they were to make it.

In the first quarter, the defensive battle began. Dekaney was strong defending the throw while Spring was able to contain the run. It was scoreless until Clourid Johnson Jr. threw a touchdown pass to Aj Williams to put points on the board for Spring.

After hitting Spring with the run, quarterback Rechuuk Hines would try his luck with the passing game. With under two minutes left in the first quarter, Dekaney stuck back with a touchdown pass to Da'shawn Bradley, the 5’ 10” senior and wide receiver.

The Lions and Wildcats would go scoreless in the second quarter, stopping the run and struggling to make completions.

With less than nine minutes left in the third quarter, Dekaney would strike again, this time with a run up the middle from number five Brandon Joseph. Dekaney would take the lead as Spring would struggle to drive to the other end of the field.

After a couple of back and forward drives, Spring would come out with a touchdown pass, this time to Desmond Landry. Spring would tie the game up at 14 but only until the beginning of the fourth quarter. Rechuuk Hines for Dekaney would again find Da'shawn Bradley for another touchdown.

Brandon Joseph would keep hitting the Spring defense up the middle in the redzone and eventually find the endzone. This would put Dekaney up 28-17 with two minutes left on the clock.

Spring would make one more effort but only managed to score one last touchdown before time ran out. Dekaney would take second place while Spring hangs onto third with Eisenhower.

With only a couple of games left in district play, it might come down to the final games to see who will move on and who will end their season early.
