Dragon Tennis Defends TTC Private School Crown With Sweep

VARSITY TENNIS

2/28 at St. Johns*

Boys Team • 3-2 L

Girls Team • 5-0 L

3/3-4 at TTC Private School Championships

John Cooper defended their TTC (Texas Tennis Coaches Assn.) Private School crown by defeating four teams in College Station.

vs Grapevine Faith • 7-0 W

vs All Saints • 9-0 W

vs Strake/St. Agnes • 9-1 W

vs Kinkaid • 7-5 W

Coach Jill DelRio: The boys and girls teams joined forces to defeat Texas private schools to win the championship for the second consecutive year. The clutch play from Theo Nemeth and Luke Smith solidified the win. Erika Olson though was four points away from winning an epic match against a formidable opponent. Together the boys and girls teams were unstoppable!

Coach Mike Williams: Our boys came out swinging the bat this weekend. We had three wins this weekend over top-ranked teams. I couldn’t be prouder of our boys on how they played this weekend.

Highlights:

Freshman Cooper Dupuis hit his first HR

Senior Vaughn McKeever hit a grand slam

Sophomore Danny O’Brien pitched a complete game

vs Southwest Christian School • 6-5 L
Coach Nicole Hedden: Cooper lost even though we out-hit Southwest Christian, six to three. We totaled six hits, with Ella Howard and Madison Rogers each collecting two.

vs Fort Worth Country Day • 8-7 W

vs Incarnate Word • 12-1 W

Coach Nicole Hedden: Addy Tague, Grace Minarovic, Leah Ruckman and Bethany Harman powered the first inning with RBIs. Right-hander Cameron Patterson pitched the win, allowing three hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking zero. The Dragons collected nine hits with Patterson and Ella Howard leading with two hits each.

We learned a lot this weekend and will continue working on our weaknesses while striving to improve our strengths.
