2nd Annual YMCA Duathlon

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Athletes from ages 7-15 started their day bright and early at the YMCA at Holcomb for the 2nd Annual Duathlon which is the last leg of the Summer Race Series. Cars lined the street and bikes filled the parking lot in preparation of the race.

The Summer Race Series started back in June with the 2nd Annual Splash and Dash which consisted of a swim and run at the Shadowbend YMCA. The second leg was the 20th Annual Triathlon which took place in July at the Branch Crossing YMCA. Finally, the 2nd Annual Duathlon took place this weekend which closed out the 2023 Summer Race Series.

Roxanne Davis was front and center organizing volunteers and cheering on athletes that were competing in the race. She, alongside many volunteers, made the races possible by guiding, cheering and providing nutrients to the athletes.

The race began ahead of schedule due to the intense heat Texas has been receiving over the past couple of days. With a slight breeze the atmosphere was quite nice and not too demanding. As the race finished the athletes gathered around for the awards ceremony.

Since this was the last race of the series, one final award was given to those who competed in all three races. With a final group photo, the series was over and the athletes went home to prepare for their next race. Some will come back in the same age group but others will tough it out in the next bracket.

The YMCA looks forward to seeing returning athletes as well as new comers for their next series next year.
