SPRING, TX -- The YMCA of Greater Houston is excited to announce the opening of The John M. O’Quinn Foundation Aquatic Center at the Holcomb Family YMCA, providing Houston area residents yet another way to achieve, connect and belong.

The aquatics center features an eight-lane pool with two dedicated teaching lanes for swim lessons, resort-style seating, restrooms, showers and additional parking. The aquatics center provides opportunities for children to take swim lessons and participate in water safety programs. Adults and families will also be able to use the pool for recreational swimming and exercise. Members who are based at other YMCA’s will have access to the new aquatics center. The project team includes Gensler Houston, Hancock Pool Services and Pieper Electric Services.

“The Holcomb Family YMCA has become a hub for connection and wellness for the community, and we are honored that we are able to offer this unique element at the facility,” said Stephen Ives, president and CEO of YMCA of Greater Houston. “As one of the top swim programs in the country, the YMCA of Greater Houston is committed to water safety education. The new aquatics center will expand water safety programs to equip families with the knowledge and abilities necessary to stay safe in and around water environments.”

“This second phase of the Holcomb Family YMCA is incredibly exciting as it helps advance the nonprofit’s strategy of creating an outdoor-centered community facility,” said Tiger Lyon, Design Director at Gensler Houston. The pool is a critical amenity that will allow individuals to exercise, learn to swim, and even compete in a sport. We know the community will enjoy and utilize it for years to come."

Phase I of Holcomb Family YMCA was completed in December 2021. This unique facility is strategically located on the shores of Lake Holcomb on Imperial Promenade Drive in Spring, Texas, allowing individuals and families to experience the outdoors and participate in wellness activities, swimming, group exercise classes, sports clinics, youth enrichment programs and more. In addition to the pool, the location features a 12,000-square-foot pavilion with turf, an outdoor fitness center, multipurpose sports courts and a shipping container “village” for various YMCA programs. Social areas are located throughout the facility to allow for interaction and relationship-building between YMCA members.
