THE WOODLANDS, TX – In the upcoming November election cycle, there are three positions up for grabs on The Woodlands Township Board of Directors. Seven candidates have successfully filed to run for these positions – the Township rejected the application of an eighth contender, Wynton Nama – before the August 21 deadline hit.

Seven candidates for three positions will be listed on the November ballot

There are seven board of director positions for the Township, each with a two-year term and up for election on a staggered basis.

Here is a breakdown of the open seats and the candidates for each:

  • Position 5 – Incumbent Shelley Sekula-Gibbs is being challenged by Tricia Danto

  • Position 6 – Incumbent Ann K. Snyder is being challenged by Thomas Andrew Chumbley

  • Position 7 – Currently held by Bob Milner, who is not seeking reelection, Thomas M. Chumbley, Cindy Heiser, and Ann Perry are vying for the seat.

For clarification, Thomas Andrew Chumbley and Thomas M. Chumbley are father and son who are both running for positions on the board. When asked by Woodlands Online why he was not running for reelection, Bob Milner said, "It's time to move on. I'm a big believer in term limits and benefitng from fresh perspectives in things unless there is the need for consistency due to ongoing issues and plans. It's been an honor to serve the residents of The Woodlands for four years. We live in an incredible community. The opportunity to serve alongside the leadership of Monique, Karen, and Chris, along with their incredible teams, has been an experience like few others in my career. I am a better person for having served under their leadership."

Additional candidates who wish to run for these positions can submit a declaration as a write-in candidate through 5:00 p.m. on August 25. To qualify as a candidate, you must be 18 years of age (as of November 7, 2023), a resident of The Woodlands Township for the past six months, a resident of Texas for the past twelve months, and a U.S. citizen. Disqualifications for candidacy include mental incompetence and the conviction of a felony.

Early voting for this election begins October 23, and Election Day is November 7. Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for upcoming news on the All-Candidate Debates and Forum scheduled in partnership with The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce for October.
