MCTXSheriff Deputies Selected for 100 Club Officers of the Year

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Earlier this week, The Houston 100 Club proudly recognized Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Dylan W. Lafferty and Deputy Darren C. Peterson as Officers of the Year for their bravery and dedication.
On December 11, 2024, deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance call in Magnolia. In the process of identifying a male involved in the altercation, Deputy Lafferty encountered a suspicious plastic bag that fell from the man's jacket. Trusting his training and instincts, Deputy Lafferty sought to detain the individual for further investigation.
Without warning, the male struck Deputy Lafferty in the face, breaking his glasses and causing injury, in that moment of chaos, Deputy Peterson rushed to assist his partner. Together, they faced the challenge of subduing a resistant suspect. Despite his injuries, Deputy Lafferty deployed his Taser, showing unwavering resolve, but the struggle continued.
As tensions escalated, Deputy Lafferty noticed the suspect attempting to overtake Deputy Peterson's duty weapon. In that critical instant, he sprang into action, recognizing the danger posed to his fellow officer. With courage and determination, Deputy Lafferty fired multiple rounds to neutralize the threat, exemplifying the bravery and commitment of those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
Sheriff Doolittle stated, "I am profoundly proud of these two lawmen for their exceptional bravery and unwavering dedication in the face of danger. It is a true honor to work alongside them as they receive this well-deserved award."
