Lone Star College students earn prestigious Jack Kent Cooke scholarship

HOUSTON, TX -- Lone Star College System is proud to announce that students Jacquelyn Galvan, Jada-Kai Johnson, Yoseline Mendoza and Jonathan Rodriguez earned the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke (JKC) Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. They will receive up to $55,000 each year for up to three years to complete a four-year degree.
“Having four students earn the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke scholarship once again proves that Lone Star College System offers top-notch educational programs, faculty and staff, resources and support, making the college system one of the top leaders in higher education,” said Katharine Caruso, Ph.D., LSC associate vice chancellor, The Honors College and International Education.
This is the first year that LSCS had four JKC scholarship finalists and the largest number of semifinalists (19) for any community college in Texas. To celebrate that incredible achievement, Lone Star College Foundation recently held a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Recognition Celebration.
“Lone Star College Foundation is thrilled to recognize a remarkable group of students whose hard work and commitment to their education are leading them toward earning prestigious opportunities such as the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship,” said Nicole Robinson Gauthier, CFRE, LSC Foundation executive director. “The remaining semifinalists will receive $10,000 each from LSC Foundation to the help on the next chapter of their educational journey.”
As for the four JKC finalists, Galvan, Johnson, Mendoza and Rodriguez they plan to pursue careers in orthodontics, cinematography and civil engineering. Read their bios at LoneStar.edu/News/117921.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2025 cohort, which consists of 90 community college students nationwide, reinforces the institution’s continued commitment to creating debt-free pathways to higher education for high-achieving students with financial need.
