Fire Contained at VillaSport Athletic Club in The Woodlands – No Injuries Reported
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- At approximately 6:27 a.m. this morning, The Woodlands Fire Department (TWFD) was dispatched to VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa in The Woodlands following a report of a fire on the premises.
Engine 102 arrived first on scene and discovered a fire contained within the sauna area, which was being held in check by the building’s sprinkler system. Firefighters worked quickly to fully extinguish the blaze, which required the removal of a significant amount of wood paneling to access smoldering hot spots.
Additional fire crews focused on ventilating smoke from the facility to ensure the safety of the structure and prepare it for eventual reentry.
VillaSport staff are being commended for their prompt and effective evacuation of the building prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among guests, staff, or first responders.
Fire damage was successfully confined to the sauna room, thanks to the sprinkler system and swift response from fire crews. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
TWFD was assisted on scene by the Montgomery County Hospital District, Needham Fire & Rescue/Montgomery County ESD #4, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
As a precaution and to allow for smoke removal and safety assessments, VillaSport will remain closed until at least this afternoon.
