WILLIS, TX -- In a matchup defined by ball control and turnovers, Klein Collins powered past Willis 42-13 on Friday night. Jermaine Bishop Jr seemed to be the only guy who showed up to this game as the rest of the team struggled with Klein Collins’s suffocating game plan which led to the Tigers spoiling the Wildkat’s home opener.

Willis Drops Their Home Opener to Klein Collins in a 42-13 Drumming

1st Quarter: Klein Collins Aims to Control the Game
The Wildkats started out the game with the ball and Jermaine Bishop Jr opened the game strong, catching a deep ball from his QB Lincoln Frazier to set Willis up on Klein Collins 40 yard line. On the next play, Jaivion Martin caught a pass from Frazier that was fumbled behind the line of scrimmage to which Klein Collins recovered. Klein Collins opened their offensive drive up by chewing up nearly eight minutes of the first quarter with a ground-heavy drive, lead by QB Braydon Schoggin and RB Jai’Shaun Jackson. Klein Collins converted two big 4th down plays which set them up deep in Willis territory. They almost got a touchdown on their first pass of the game from Schoggin to WR Ty’drick Finley but it was broken up in the last second by Bishop. The quarter ended with both teams failing to score, leaving the game at 0-0 going into the 2nd quarter

2nd Quarter: Klein Collins Breaks Through
The 2nd quarter belonged to the Tigers. Schoggin torched the Willis defense to finally put the first points on the board for Klein Collins, making it 7-0. Finally Willis got the ball back and Bishop answered with a long touchdown catch from Frazier but the extra point misses making the score now 7-6. Klein Collins then proceeded to respond with another score that saw Schoggins run the ball in after hitting a wide-open Finley for the biggest pass play of the night, putting Klein Collins up 14-6. On the ensuing kickoff, the Willis returner failed to secure the ball fully and fumbled the ball right back to Klein Collins, which the Tiger capitalized on, scoring again off a Schoggin run to quickly make the score 21-6. Once Willis got the ball back, Frazier then fumbled the ball on a QB run and gave it right back to the Tigers, making it the 3rd turnover of the game. Once again, the Tigers drove down the field with quick passes from Schoggin to Finley and set up their RB Jackson with a quick touchdown run that put the Tigers up 28-6 with about a minute left of play. Willis once again got the ball back and got into Klein Collins territory off the back of some great Bishop runs and catches, but Frazier ultimately threw a interception on the goal-line while trying to hit Tyler Andrade ending the half for both teams. So far, it seems Klein Collins gameplan of chewing clock and not allowing the Willis offense on the field is working well.

3rd Quarter: A Blowout Takes Shape
After the break, Klein Collins extended their dominance. Schoggin connected with Ty’drick Finley for another big play to set them up in Willis territory. Willis managed to finally get what looked like a stop on 3rd down and Klein Collins was forced to kick a field goal. However, on the kick, Bishop ran offsides in an attempt to block the kick, setting up an easier 4th down for the Tigers to convert, to which Schoggin once again ran in to push the score to 35-6. Willis continued to move the ball behind Bishop but another interception by Frazier on the goal line at the goal line stalled progress making it clear this was the Tigers night. A rare defensive stop gave Willis brief hope, as they forced the first punt of the game, with 1:49 left in the 3rd quarter, but the Tigers remained in full control heading into the final quarter.

4th Quarter: The Tigers Put the Dagger in the Wildkats
In the fourth, Willis again came up short on a critical fourth down when Frazier hit Jaivion Martin on a screen, but Martin was stopped short of the line to gain, and Willis was forced to turn over the ball on downs. Klein Collins then stretched the lead to 42-6 with a Schoggin-to-Finley touchdown after chewing more clock on the backs of Schoggins and Jackson, putting the dagger in the hearts of Wildkats fans and the exclamation mark on a surprising win. Running back Jamarcus Williams finally found the end zone late for Willis, but the damage had long been done. The Tigers drained the clock on their final possession to close out the decisive 42-13 win.

Final Thoughts
Klein Collins came into this game with one thing on their mind, run the ball and control the clock, and that’s exactly what they did. Key turnovers from Willis helped the Tigers keep control and stifled the Wildkat offense. Willis recorded 5 turnovers in this game, all of which were responded with scores from Klein Collins and the Tigers looked strong being led by Schoggins who played a great game. This is a tough loss for the Wildkats but on the bright side, it is an out of district loss so their chances at a district title are still alive as they travel to play Cleveland next week. Hopefully they can use that game to recover and figure out what went wrong with this game and fix it to keep this season alive.
