Park to be Closed for Renovations and Upgrades
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Alden Bridge Sports Park, used by softball, lacrosse, rugby and others, will be undergoing renovations and upgrades to improve the park. Located in the Village of Alden Bridge, Alden Bridge Sports Park is a premier destination for organized sports, recreation, and outdoor enjoyment. Designed with athletes and families in mind, this well-maintained facility provides a vibrant, active environment for residents and visitors alike. Renovations are expected to begin in January 2026 and conclude in March 2027, during which the multipurpose fields will be closed. The Community Garden and diamond ball fields will remain open.
Phase 1 of the renovation plan stems from the 2022 Parks Needs Assessment and extensive input from community and field users. Phase 1 includes two additional artificial turf fields, two grass fields, expanded parking, a new driveway connection to SH 242, additional and updated restrooms, a new pavilion, playground and LED lighting upgrades. Township in-house work will reduce overall costs, bringing the project total to $11.22 million, about $1 million under budget.
“One of the primary goals of the renovation is to enhance parking within the park and reduce the need for parking along SH 242,” said Township Parks and Recreation Director John McGowan.
Therefore, the parking lot will be expanded from 282 parking spaces to 485 parking spaces. While adding parking requires the removal of field space, the proposed plan expands the playable area from 329,101 square feet to 460,523 square feet. Renovation to the western side of the park includes updating the restroom, fencing, dugouts, and site amenities. Phase I does not include the installation of all-weather turf on the softball/baseball field or additional parking along the western edge of the park. The enhancements currently proposed for Phase I include, but are not limited to:
- 203 additional parking spaces
- Restroom at the multipurpose field
- A pavilion
- A playground
- Second ingress/egress to the park
- Field 3 conversion from a small grass field to a “championship field” with all-weather turf and bleachers/scoreboard
- New grass field to the south of field 1 and 2, with lights
- New full-sized artificial field south of the softball/baseball fields
- Various site amenities will include bleachers, benches and awnings
“We look forward to completing the renovations in early 2027,” McGowan said.
