Celebrate a beloved community tradition at the 50th Arbor Day Tree Giveaway on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at Rob Fleming Park (6055 Creekside Forest Dr., The Woodlands, TX 77389). This free event invites residents to help preserve and enhance our local forest by planting native tree seedlings.
Since 1977, The Woodlands has distributed more than 1.5 million seedlings, encouraging families to plant trees in their yards, community open space reserves, and forest preserves. This long-standing tradition continues to support environmental health, wildlife habitats, and the natural beauty of our community.
During the 50th celebration, attendees can choose from 12 native tree species, including both overstory and understory varieties:
Overstory Trees (typically 60+ feet at maturity):
-
Loblolly Pine
-
Black Walnut
-
Green Ash
-
American Planetree Sycamore
-
Pignut Hickory
-
Live Oak
-
Shagbark Hickory
Understory Trees (8–50 feet at maturity):
-
Eastern Redbud
-
White Flowering Dogwood
-
Black Cherry
-
False Indigo
-
Common Witchhazel
Each seedling supports local wildlife—flowering species provide nectar for pollinators like bees and butterflies, while berry-producing trees offer food for birds and small mammals. All varieties serve as essential hosts for beneficial insects.
Join your neighbors to celebrate 50 years of Arbor Day in The Woodlands and help plant the next generation of our community forest.
