The Woodlands Highlanders Golf Teams Win Big In The Lake Windcrest District Tournament
THE WOODLANDS – With spring in full bloom, golf is stepping back into the spotlight and catching the attention of everyone in the sports world. With that in mind, The Woodlands Boys & Girls Golf teams competed at Lake Windcrest Golf Course in a major district tournament. The boys’ team had an outstanding tournament, winning a district championship in both team and individual play. With a combined score of 576, they finished ahead of Grand Oaks and College Park, while the second Highlander team placed third, just behind the Grizzlies. The girls’ team also had a great week, finishing as district runners-up with an overall score of 608, only 5 points behind the winner, Grand Oaks.
For the boys, senior Abhay Duggal led the charge for The Woodlands, posting a -2 score in the second round, finishing with a total score of 138 and taking first place at the tournament. Duggal’s performance earned him the 2026 13-6A Individual District Championship, capping off his senior season on a high note. Along with Duggal, junior Tripp Depoy had a strong showing, finishing with a 144 overall score after a -1 day, securing the runner-up spot in the tournament. Even the younger players contributed, with sophomore Anthony Butt shooting a 147 over the two days, tying Willis’s Jacob Lee and Grand Oaks’ Grant Harris for third place. Overall, these scores helped the Highlanders secure first place as a team and come out on top at the end of the tournament.
The girls’ team also played brilliantly, qualifying for regionals coming up this month after the Lake Windcrest tournament. Junior Payson Pistono led The Woodlands players, shooting a 143 overall score and going -2 on her second outing, which earned her a second-place finish in the individual standings. Just behind Pistono was freshman Aleah Shields-Rodipe, who finished close behind her teammate in third place with a 146 overall score. All of this resulted in a second-place/runner-up finish for the main team, while the second team finished fourth with a combined score of 665 over the two days.
With both teams having fantastic weekends, it will be exciting to see what’s next for them. Regional tournaments are starting for these teams, and both should be strong contenders at whatever course they compete on. After a solid performance at the Lake Windcrest tournament from both the boys and girls, The Woodlands golf team is in a great position moving forward.
