MCSO and HSI Make Arrest of Formerly Deported Illegal Immigrant, Registered Sex Offender
MAGNOLIA, TX -- On Saturday, May 23, 2026, at approximately 8:25 p.m., deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office West Patrol Command, who were participating in the Memorial Day DWI Task Force, conducted a traffic stop in the 8200 block of FM 1488 in Magnolia.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Jose Dennis Garcia-Murillo. During the investigation, deputies working with Homeland Security Investigations Houston, determined that Garcia-Murillo had an outstanding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) administrative warrant. Investigators also determined Garcia-Murillo is a convicted sex offender who had previously been deported from the United States and later re-entered the United States illegally.
Following the arrest, deputies discovered a firearm inside the vehicle that had previously been reported stolen during an aggravated robbery in Houston. Garcia-Murillo, who was working as a contract Amazon delivery driver and had packages in the vehicle at the time of his arrest, was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
Because Garcia-Murillo reported that he was residing in Harris County at the time of his arrest, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Compliance Unit notified the Harris County Sheriff’s Office after determining that he had not registered as a sex offender as required by law. Additional charges may be pursued by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
