THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Children’s Museum is excited to announce the launch of Quiet Discovery Hours, a new initiative designed to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and low-stress environment for children with sensory processing differences. By offering dedicated sensory-friendly opportunities, the museum aims to ensure that every child can explore and learn in a supportive space.

For many children, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), standard museum environments can be overwhelming due to bright lights, loud noises, large crowds, and unpredictable circumstances. Quiet Discovery Hours are specifically designed to reduce over stimulation and create an accessible experience for all.

“Our goal is to provide a place where every child feels comfortable engaging with our exhibits and discovering new interests,” stated Jennifer Kraus, the museum’s Interim Executive Director. “By reducing sensory input and limiting attendance, we can provide a more predictable environment where families can focus on playing together without the stress of overstimulation.”

Quiet Discovery Hours will begin this summer and are offered on the following Saturdays from 9:00am to 10:00am: June 13, July 18, and August 1. Families can enjoy the museum for a full hour before it opens to the general public. Guests are welcome to stay as long or as little as they like once the museum transitions to general public hours.

To help provide a supportive environment, the museum will offer:

  • Limited Capacity: Crowd sizes are monitored to provide ample personal space.

  • Sound Reduction: No overhead announcements, background music, or speakers will be used.

  • Quiet Zone: A quiet area is available in the outdoor Atrium for those needing a sensory break.

  • Sensory Programming: Each session will feature an inclusive art activity tailored for various ages and abilities.

The summer series is also supported by The Learning Lane, a locally owned and operated group of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) clinics in The Woodlands and Oak Ridge specializing in providing therapy to children diagnosed with Autism. Staff from The Learning Lane will be available at each session to provide information and resources.

Admission to the museum is $10 for adults and children over age one. Infants under 1 are free. Tickets for this event will be available June 1st, 2026. The Woodlands Children’s Museum is located in the Panther Creek Village Center at 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, Suite 280, The Woodlands, Texas 77381.
