THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands enjoys two amazing libraries within the Township borders – the George & Cynthia Mitchell Library located at 8125 Ashlane Way, and the Kevin Brady Library located at 2250 Buckthorne Place – that are open Mondays - Thursdays 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Fridays - Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (closed Sundays).

Beyond having tons of books to check out, these libraries also offer computer / internet services, reference and research services, movie check-outs, classes, workshops, activities, and more. Woodlands Online presents this weekly summary of what each week has in store.

All library events, programs, and classes are free and open to the public. If any individual requires an accommodation to participate in the library events, programs, or classes, please contact the host library location at least three days before the program or event. Some events require registration. Classes and events with full already-full registrations are not included in this list. Events are subject to change without notice.

Monday, August 17

Book Babies Storytime
9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Join us for Mitchell Library's Book Babies Storytime! This program features rhymes, songs, and fingerplays to engage children ages 0 - 18 months and their caregivers. Seated older siblings are welcome to join in. Age-appropriate toys will be provided for free play during the second half of the program. Entrance is first-come, first-serve, until the room or program is at capacity. To avoid distracting other children, please refrain from bringing toys or food to storytime. Children must be supervised by an adult. Events are subject to change without notice.

Teen Uno Tournament
5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
Teen Uno Tournament for teens aged 12 - 18. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place. All supplies and snacks provided. Registration required Registration is full and closed for this event.

Tuesday, August 18

Family Storytime
9:30 - 10:00 a.m., 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.
This story program is for children (ages 3 - 5) and a caregiver with an emphasis on stories and activities for preschoolers. This program emphasizes early literacy skills and is a great way to meet other families with young children. Entrance is first-come, first-serve, until the room or program is at capacity. Space is limited; please limit the number of adults in your group to allow more children into the program. Please attend one storytime each week to allow more children into the program. Children must be supervised by an adult. Food is not allowed in the program; please save your snacks for afterwards.

Google Docs
10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
In this beginner-friendly class, we will demonstrate creating, editing, and formatting documents in Google Docs. You will learn the skills needed to create your own forms, resumes, and more. Adult Mahjong (Chinese Version)
1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Let’s play Mahjong! Join us for an afternoon of this popular tile game every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. Don't worry if you don't know how to play; we will teach you!

Wednesday, August 19

Family Storytime
9:30 - 10:00 a.m., 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Knit & Stitch
10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Calling all needlecrafters! Come by to socialize while you work on your craft projects. Open to anyone who knits, crochets, embroiders, or does any other needlecraft. Bring your own work-in progress and supplies. Ages 18 and up.

Adult Evening Book Club
6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Not sure what to read next? Let us pick the book for you! The Mitchell evening book club reads a mix of fiction and non-fiction selections and meets the 3rd Wednesday every month for a lively discussion of the current book. Registration is currently full but if you would like to be placed on a waitlist please e-mail aubrey.parker@countylibrary.org. Ages 18 and up. The August selection is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles.

Also note, this library offers 45-minute 1-on-1 Tech Help on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 12:00 p.m. Registration is required and slots fill fast; register with the reference desk or by emailing Ayden.Burns@countylibrary.org.

Nonfiction Book Club for Adults

1:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Join us for an interesting discussion of books! Through fascinating stories from history, insightful readings of the classics, and poignant personal reflection, author Vallejo traces the dramatic history of the book and the fight for its survival. At its heart a spirited love letter to language itself, Papyrus: The Invention of Books in the Ancient World, takes readers on a journey across the centuries to discover how a simple reed grown along the banks of the Nile would give birth to a rich and cherished culture.Any adult is invited to attend and enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded nonfiction aficionados. Light refreshments will be served.

Teen: SAT Bootcamp
6:00 - 7:30 p.m., Computer Lab Room 214
Teens aged 15 - 18, prepping for the SAT can attend as few or as many sessions as they like. This program was designed by a student scoring 1500 on his SAT. Bring your own device or use a library computer. Registration for this event is full and closed.

Saturday, August 22

Teen Practice SAT Exam
9:00 - 10:00 a.m.
The Mitchell Library partners with The Woodlands Test Prep to offer free practice exams, simulating the testing environment, to local teens, ages 14 - 18. The Woodlands Test Prep evaluates results to offer insight into areas of the exam that students should focus on improving. Preschool Storytime

Preschooler Storytime is geared toward children aged 3 years and up who can sit or stand still, listen to the storyteller, and practice self-control for longer periods of time. Stories are longer and activities are more complex. Prepare your child for storytime by explaining how to be a good audience member. To avoid distracting other children, please refrain from bringing toys or food to storytime. Comfort items (i.e., blankies or small stuffed animals) are permitted.

3D Printer Orientation

1:00 - 2:00 p.m., 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Bring Your Ideas to Life with 3D Printing! Ready to turn imagination into reality? Join their 3D Printing Orientation and discover the amazing services available at the Kevin Brady Library. This session is required before you can reserve time on our 3D printer – your first step toward creating something incredible. Children ages 13-18 must be accompanied by an adult during orientation and appointments. Class will be held in the computer lab. Gardening with Bob

Toddler Storytime
9:15 - 9:45 a.m.; 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Toddler Storytime introduces children to books with simple language and predictable plots. This program familiarizes toddlers with the concept of storytime manners and helps them practice these new skills. Toddler Storytime is most appropriate for children aged 18 months to 3 years. Toddler Storytime is about 25 minutes long. Tickets are not required for this event. Prepare your child for storytime by explaining how to be a good audience member. Strollers are not allowed in the program room. Baby carriers/car seats are acceptable. To avoid distracting other children, please refrain from bringing toys or food to storytime. Teen Bullet Journaling
4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Need a space to clear your head? Or maybe you want to get organized? Join us for a Bullet Journaling session! We have all the supplies needed, but feel free to bring your own. Chill out to some Lo-fi tunes and let it all out on the pages! For teens ages 13-17. Please register all teens who will be attending. Parents/Guardians: Please either drop off your teens or wait elsewhere in the library during the program. Baby & Me

Ready to design vibrant, custom creations? Join our orientation session and learn how to use the Sawgrass SG1000 sublimation printer and heat press like a pro! This session will cover the sublimation printer and heat press capabilities, operation and best practices, and everything you need to start creating personalized projects. Completion of this orientation is required before you can book time on the sublimation printer at the Kevin Brady Library Innovation Lab. Children 13 - 18 must be accompanied by an adult during orientation and appointments. Class will be held in the computer lab. Culinary Book Club

Adults 18+, please join us for an engaging culinary discussion! The Culinary Book Club at the Kevin Brady Library is a great place to share your thoughts and ideas that celebrate your love of cooking and food. The featured culinary selection for August will be Amish Cooking. Registration is limited. Please register in advance for the upcoming book discussion to participate. Cricut Orientation

Are you ready to design fun creations using a variety of materials? Join our orientation session and learn how to use the Cricut Venture! This session will cover the Cricut, Design Space and best practices - everything you need to start creating personalized projects. Completion of this orientation is required before you can book time on the Cricut Venture at the Kevin Brady Library Innovation Lab. Mandarin Mah Jongg (Intermediate Level)

Puzzle Swap
2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Love puzzles? Join us in the programming room to swap your puzzles for some that are “New to You!” Puzzles pieces should be in a Ziploc bag inside the original box, or the box should be taped shut. Puzzles that are missing pieces can only be swapped with other puzzles that are missing pieces. Hope to see you there!
