Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Earns National Chest Pain Recognition

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center earned accreditation from the American College of Cardiology as a Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI. This demonstrates that Memorial Hermann The Woodlands provides exceptional, 24/7 emergency care to patients with chest pain and heart attacks, including a cardiac catheterization team ready around the clock to perform emergency angioplasty and stenting to open blocked arteries.

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a non-surgical procedure that opens narrowed or blocked coronary arteries with a balloon to relieve symptoms of heart disease or to reduce heart damage during or after a heart attack. PCI is also known as coronary angioplasty and includes implanting a spring-like device called a stent into the artery to keep it open after the balloon is withdrawn.

As part of the accreditation process, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands had to pass strict evaluations of its staff, protocols, equipment and patient pathways from EMS arrival to discharge. As an accredited center, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands met strict performance benchmarks to reduce the time it takes from hospital arrival to opening the blocked artery (aka door to balloon time).
