Woodlands Church Athlete Of The Week: Julian Cromartie Dismantles The Conroe Tigers With A 4 Touchdown Performance
THE WOODLANDS – This week saw many blowouts, with teams getting back into the win column as the playoff push continues. Chief among them was the College Park Cavaliers, who dismantled the Conroe Tigers 44-10 on Friday night. The Cavaliers' offense delivered another strong performance, putting up 481 yards of total offense and 5 TDs. Four of those touchdowns came from senior WR Julian Cromartie, who had one of his best games of the season and earned Woodlands Church Athlete of the Week.
It’s no secret the Cavaliers have had an up-and-down season, but they are turning a corner in the latter part of the season. This offense is talented, and the standout is Julian Cromartie, who has notched 29 catches for 665 yards and 10 TDs so far. The Clemson commit seems to have a great play every game, with some of the best catches we’ve seen all season. His game against Willis to start district play was one of his best, as the senior wideout recorded 4 catches for 135 yards and 3 TDs. His most recent game against Conroe might be his best yet, though, as he recorded a staggering 9 catches for 217 yards and 4 TDs.
Cromartie started the fireworks early on Friday, scoring quickly on a deep pass from QB Camden Hughes that saw the wideout burn double coverage on his way to the end zone. His 2nd TD came later in the 2nd quarter, when Hughes found Cromartie in the back of the end zone for a 30-yard TD to put the Cavaliers up 27-3. After the half, Cromartie kept the scoring going, catching a great 20-yard pass in the middle of the end zone to balloon the Cavaliers’ lead to 34-3. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Cromartie made one of the best catches of the evening, going over the top of the covering DB to snag a 45-yard pass that put the Cavaliers in prime scoring position. He was a bit banged up after the catch but got back on the field, scoring his 4th TD of the night on an awesome crossing route that Hughes connected with to make it 41-3 right at the start of the 4th quarter. His final big play came on a solid run after the catch that saw him evade multiple tacklers, bringing the Cavaliers into field goal range, which they later made to reach their final point total of 44.
This is one of those games that reminds you how good a team can be when its back is against the wall, and Cromartie is a big reason for the Cavaliers' recent turnaround. He’s got a solid QB in Hughes to throw to, and if they are clicking, it’s hard for any defense to stop them. This offense will stay electric with Cromartie on the field, and that’s why he is our Woodlands Church Athlete Of The Week.
