The history of cream tea is debatable. Some believe the first cream tea was served in the 11th century at Devon’s Tavistock Abbey. Others think it was first served in Cornwall.
Cream tea is a tea service that serves as a light snack with tea. It typically includes a pot of tea and a scone served with clotted cream and jam.
We offer cream tea for one or two any time of day during normal business hours.
Afternoon Tea
Afternoon tea' refers to a quintessentially British tradition established by Anna, the Duchess of Bedford in the 19th century. When first introduced, the practice of sitting down for afternoon tea wasn't seen as a treat. In fact, it had a very practical purpose to hold one over until dinnertime. In other words, afternoon tea was just meant to be “snack time.”
Afternoon Tea is a tea service that serves as a light meal that is typically served between two and five o’clock in the afternoon. It is customary to serve light tea sandwiches, scones, small pastries and tea.
We offer afternoon tea for adults and children any time of day during normal business hours. We also offer vegetarian and gluten-free options as well as themed services throughout the year.
High Tea
The phrase 'high tea' started to be used to describe a working-class meal served at a high table and high back dining chairs at the end of a long workday. The tea would be accompanied by a hot meal. This could be a meat or fish dish with vegetables and baked goods.
High tea is a tea service that serves as a heavier “dinner time” meal with tea.
