THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands Fire Department is reminding all residents not to use fireworks during the New Year's holiday. The Woodlands covenants strictly prohibit the sale or use of fireworks and sparklers of any kind in The Woodlands. There is also no fireworks display in The Woodlands Township.

"Our community is situated in a beautiful forest, and with the dry conditions we have experienced this year, one errant spark poses severe damage to buildings, houses and neighborhoods,” said Fire Chief Alan Benson.

The Woodlands Fire Department needs your help! Please keep your neighbors and our community in mind and remember, safety first! Please do not discharge fireworks within The Woodlands.

Additionally, Harris County has prohibited the sale and use of restricted fireworks—stick rockets and missiles with fins—in all areas of unincorporated Harris County due to dry vegetation and the abundance of dead trees across the county. The restriction begins December 20th and will last through the New Year holiday. Violation of the order is a “Class C” misdemeanor and carries a fine of up to $500 a day.

For those looking for a New Year's Eve fire works display the City of Houston will be hosting New Year's Eve Live in Downtown Houston. The event starts at 7 p.m. with live music and an illuminated parade leading up to a midnight countdown and fireworks.
