Willis Gets Back To Their Winning Ways, While The Woodlands Thrashes Cleveland

THE WOODLANDS – It was an exciting Friday night for a couple of teams in the district as both Willis and The Woodlands picked up dominant wins. Willis traveled down to New Caney, while The Woodlands also hit the road to take on Cleveland. For Willis, this was a good rebound after last week’s loss and showed why they are still a team to watch out for. The Woodlands took care of business as usual and look ready for their big game against College Park next week.
Willis vs. New Caney: Picked Up The Pace After A Slow Start
It was a solid night for the Willis Wildkats, who secured a 42-7 victory at Randle Reed Stadium against the New Caney Eagles. After last week's tough loss, it was good to see Willis bounce back and get back to winning form. It wasn’t all flawless, though, as some offensive struggles early on kept New Caney competitive until the second half. Jermaine Bishop played great as usual, catching two touchdowns and returning a punt for a touchdown. That punt return was a 65-yard dash where he dodged and weaved through several defenders before reaching the end zone. He also recovered a fumble, impacting all three phases of the game. His teammate, Jaivion Martin, also had a strong day, scoring two touchdowns himself, showing he can be the centerpiece of this offense when Bishop is contained. RB Jamarcus Williams also got into the scoring act, catching a nice pass in the end zone to start the second half. The frustrating part of the game was the passing attack. QB Lincoln Frazier made some critical mistakes that, while not directly leading to New Caney scores, limited how many points Willis could put on the board. Frazier threw two interceptions in the first half and lost a fumble, revealing Willis's vulnerability to turnovers. Fortunately, those turnovers didn’t cost points, as the defense stepped up and blocked each field goal attempt. Penalties also caused trouble, especially late in the game when some calls helped New Caney move down the field. For New Caney, they managed to score on a nice throw from QB Payton Lopez to Cameron Clay but couldn’t do much else. Lopez played well despite the loss, and New Caney had some key moments to build on for the future. Overall, it was another important win for Willis, one they desperately needed to stay in playoff contention.
The Woodlands vs. Cleveland: An Absolute Splattering
It wasn’t much of a contest in Cleveland, as The Woodlands Highlanders crushed the Cleveland Indians 69-0. It was a blowout from start to finish. The Woodlands didn’t ease up, entering halftime with 42 points already on the scoreboard. QB Jack Daulton threw for 3 touchdowns, spreading the ball around as WRs Peyton Dipasquale and Dhillon Harris both reached the end zone. The running game was strong, with RB Lincoln Halsey making several big runs and scoring a touchdown, while Jason Haskins also contributed with his own score. The backups played most of the second half, as QB Daniel Villanueva Boone threw for a touchdown and ran one in, adding to the dominance and gaining valuable experience. The defense was exceptional; not only did they record a shutout, but they also scored two defensive touchdowns. One came in the first half when Mike Tellison intercepted and returned it for a pick-6, while the other was a scoop and score by Sai Singh late in the game, sealing the 69-0 victory. This was a dominating win for The Woodlands, setting them up for a game against College Park in what’s known as “The War of The Woods.” If The Woodlands can build on this win, they could be a threat against anyone.
Final Thoughts:
While it wasn’t the most exciting week of football, it still offered plenty of entertaining games. The Woodlands will look forward to that match against College Park, a key one if either team wants a shot at the district crown. Willis bounced back nicely after the tough loss, and hopefully they can keep it going and avoid falling again.
