Soggy start to Kilt Cup

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – It was a soggy start to the Kilt Cup and Lady Highlanders Invitational on Thursday at The Woodlands High School.

The Oak Ridge and College Park High School girls’ soccer teams opened Lady Highlanders Invitational play Thursday morning in a downpour while The Woodlands High School boys’ soccer team opened the Kilt Cup with an impressive 5-2 victory over Stratford on a rain-soaked Willig Field. The Highlanders continue on Friday with a 3 p.m. match against San Antonio Clark at Woodforest Stadium.

Oak Ridge dropped a 2-1 decision to Fort Bend Austin on Thursday. Mercedes Rodgers scored for the Lady War Eagles, who face Cy-Woods at 3 p.m. Friday at The Woodlands Ninth Grade Campus before battling Vista Ridge at 11 a.m. in Woodforest Stadium.

College Park tied Cy-Creek, 2-2, in its opener on Thursday. Rachel Steinbauer and Isa Sanabria scored goals. The Lady Cavaliers meet Cinco Ranch at 3 p.m. Friday and tangle with Clear Brook at 9 a.m. Saturday. Both matches are at The Woodlands High School Field 2.

The hosting Lady Highlanders, ranked No. 10 in the state, dropped a 2-1 decision to Klein on Thursday. Kyle Dodson scored with an assist from Sabrina Marx to put the Lady Highlanders in front, 1-0, in the first half before Klein rallied.

The Lady Highlanders take on O’Connor at 1 p.m. Friday before facing Deer Park at 7 p.m. Friday, both at Woodforest Stadium.
