THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Conroe Independent School District reports on campus updates for The Woodlands area schools from February 19-25.

Birnham Woods Elementary School

Our Bulldogs rocked the Box Top contest this month! January winners are Caroline Zirilli's Pre-K/PPCD class; Jenny Hayden's kindergarten class, Connie Dunn's first grade class, Jennifer Garner's second grade class, Laura Randall's third grade class and Tamika Samford's fourth grade class.

“Read To Succeed” forms are due February 21. By reading 360 minutes, you can earn a free ticket to Six Flags. What a great incentive to read!!!! Be on the lookout for flyers coming home this week about our upcoming Book Fair and ways you can contribute.

Broadway Elementary School

On Friday, February 21, Susan Crummel, author will be presenting to our students.

On Saturday, February 22, we have several groups of students going to the DI tournament held at McCullough. These children have been working very hard all year on their presentations and are looking forward to the tournament.

Our magazine fund raiser will begin on Monday, February 24.

Also, beginning on Monday, February 24, our students will be learning about the character trait of Fairness.

Buckalew Elementary School

Congratulations to the following students who received a “Principal's Award” medallion for demonstrating our Keys to Success: Max Elias, Kenneth Adiguna, Reese Kamykowski, Travis Good, Brooks McCoy, Ellis Kologinczak, Adam Pavlas, Connor Mermis, Abbey Taylor, and Kaitlyn Zoda.

Boosterthon, Buckalew's Spring 2014 fundraiser, will help us raise funds for new playground equipment and technology! The event will kick off with a 30-minute school-wide Pep Rally on Wednesday, February 19 at 2 p.m. and conclude on Friday, February 28 with the Boosterthon Fun Run. More information will be coming home soon!

Buckalew second graders will have their Math Olympics on February 21. Don't miss this fun event!

Bush Elementary School

Spring Book Fair! The school book fair will take place in the activity room starting Monday, February 24 thru Friday, February 28. We will be having the Grand Event!

Collins Intermediate School

Collins Choir is proud of our CISD Honor Choir students. Collins had 8 students who auditioned for and made the CISD Honor Choir. They are: Jimmy Harvin, Lexie Isom, Abby Onofrio, Tamara Ozel, Emmie Sumrall, Kristienne Tenido, Sarah Wright and Sophia Wright. Congratulations to these very talented singers! They will represent the Collins Choir at the CISD Intermediate Honor Choir Concert on Saturday, March 29.

Box Tops for Education Hey Collins! Great job collecting Box Tops for Education! Our competition is really heating up this semester! It is almost time to submit our next round of Box Top, so now is the time to turn in your collection you have at home. The deadline to turn in your Box Tops will be Friday February 21. Be sure to write your teacher's name on your envelope or baggie! Box Tops submitted without a name on them have no way of being credited to your class! Remember, the winning class gets an ice cream party!

Deretchin K-6 School

Our PTO will be holding a meeting on February 20 at 9:30 a.m. If you haven't joined yet, there is still time.

On February 21, students will be celebrating Go Texan Day in various ways. PE will be experimenting with Rodeo activities so your children should have great things to talk about when they come home.

Ford Elementary School

Ford Elementary third and fourth grade Academic Night for parents will be held from 6:15 – 7:30 p.m. on February 18.

Thirty-five fourth grade Falcon Choir members will participate in the Oak Ridge High School Feeder Festival Choir Concert on February 25 at 6:30 p.m. at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. These students have been learning 6 preselected pieces of music and will perform with other 4th grade students from each of the six elementary schools in this zone, along with the top choir at Oak Ridge High School. The concert is free and open to the general public.

Glen Loch Elementary School

Calling all Gator Alumni to buy a brick and be a part of the school history forever! The Parent Teacher Organization is selling personalized bricks as an ongoing fund raiser.

The Gator takeover of Spring Creek BBQ will be held on Tuesday February 18 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Bruce Hale, author of Clark the Shark and many other books for children and teens, visited Glen Loch on Tuesday February 11. His storytelling and reading presentation captivated students. Thank you to Barnes and Noble for bringing Bruce Hale to Glen Loch.

Please continue to drop off your plastic shopping bags for our recycling collection. Plastic bag recycling bins are located just inside the front doors.

Hailey Elementary School

During the week of February 17-20, third grade students will be celebrating Olympics Week.

Thursday, February 20, the school spirit store will be open in the cafeteria during all lunches.

Friday, February 21, the Bluebonnet Party will be held in the school library. Also on this day, pre-K and kindergarten students will hear a poison control presentation.

Our school wishes our seven Destination Imagination teams a very successful day at the district tournament Saturday, February 22, at McCullough Jr. High School. Our teams have been working hard to prepare for this event throughout the school year!

Monday, February 24, at 6 p.m., there will be an important meeting at Wilkerson Intermediate for all parents of rising fifth graders. We encourage all of our fourth grade parents to attend this meeting and learn what is ahead for your children next year in intermediate school.

Hailey's annual spring carnival is fast approaching. The date is Friday, March 28 at 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.

Houser Elementary School

Third Grade Field Trip to Spring Creek Nature Center is on Wednesday, February 19.

Spirit Night at Red Robin is, Thursday, February 20 all day.

Oak Ridge Feeder Choir Concert is, Tuesday, February 25 at 8 p.m. at The Woodlands United Methodist Church.

Irons Junior High School

Campus Happenings: Congratulations to the following students who were invited to represent Irons Jr. High and CISD at the Reliant Center on February 15 for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Quick Draw competition: Noah Caratao, Arianne Martinez, Kylee Vear, and Kamari Williams. The alternate is Eder Jaimes. Please help Mrs. Willeford and Mrs. Poynter in wishing them Good Luck!

Irons Junior High is proud to recognize the following students for their academic or social achievements. The “Red Hot” learning team 7-1 would like to recognize Madison McKown for her consistent work ethic and positive personality. The “All Staar” learning team 7-3 would like to recognize Jacob Bryant for volunteering to help Robotics teams without partners and for a perfect score on his Expository Essay. The "Iron Nation" learning team 8-1 would like to recognize Andrew Peake. The "Shake N' Bake"learning team 8-2 would like to recognize Amber Aguilar for her drive to learn more. Her positive attitude and hard work have paid off this year. The "Spirit" learning team 8-4 would like to recognize Austin Haley. Ms. Poynter's Artists of the week in Art I class are Samantha Zugarazo for an excellent start on her Nonobjective pen and ink composition. From Art II, Cassandra Montealvo has created outstanding Zentangle pen and ink abstract of two birds. Great job ladies!!!

Kaufman Elementary School

Second graders will be having their music program “Go Fish” on Thursday, February 20. Parents are invited to attend in the evening at 6:30 p.m.

A huge thank you to everyone for helping to make the Spring Book Fair a success. Proceeds from the book fair go towards adding new library books to the collection, author visits and technology applications.

Knox Junior High School

The following students were chosen as Knights of the Roundtable for the second nine weeks: Alexandra Worthman, Erickson Gomez , Katy Freeman, Priyanka Srivastava, Ramon Gonzalez, Chasity Grimes, Lucas Warma, Braden Macurdy, Alexas Murphy, Adam Villarreal, Alexandra Chodorow, Alyssa Girlinghouse, and Alejandra Abarca. McCullough Junior High School

Highlighted Highlanders Award recipients for February were presented with certificates and treated to donuts provided by the Parent Teacher Organization. The Highlighted Highlander Award is given to students who exemplify achievements warranting special recognition such as exhibiting a courteous and respectful attitude, performing a good deed, improved performance or exemplifying great leadership skills. McCullough Band Soloists earned one hundred and forty-six First Division Superior Ratings at the recent CISD Solo and Ensemble contest. The nine McCullough Ensembles all earned first divisions for thirty-seven Superior Ratings. The Band brought home a total of one hundred and eighty-three medals. Congratulations McC Band!

Mitchell Intermediate School

The students in sixth grade will go on a field trip this spring, sponsored by the PTO, to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. They will participate in the Mission to Mars program. LC 8 will go on Wednesday, February 19, LC 9 will go on Thursday, February 20 and LC 11 will go on Tuesday, February 25.

We would like to thank the many volunteers who helped in the library this month at the Scholastic Book Fair.

Oak Ridge High School

On Tuesday, February 4 Oak Ridge High School hosted the Genetics Update Conference for schools throughout the district and surrounding area. The student participants in these conferences generally come from Biology and A.P. Biology classes. Our guest speaker was Dr. Sam Rhine.

Powell Elementary School

Friday, February 21, the third graders will be having their field trip to Jones Nature Park.

Friday, February 21, third and fourth graders will be having their PE Halftime Performance at the Lady Highlanders Soccer game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, kindergarten and first grade will be participating in the Jr. Achievement program.

Snyder Elementary School

Thursday, February 20 is our Spring School Picture Day. Students will also be taking class pictures. Order forms have been sent home.

Congratulations to Debbie Rodriquez, our Humanitarian of the Year and Janelle Short, our Teacher of the Year.

Also, congratulations to Linnsey O'Connor, this month's Teachers Achieving Excellence winner.

The Woodlands Ninth Grade High School

On Monday, April 14 The Woodlands High School and The Woodlands College Park High School will co-host a college planning event and forum. Experts from the colleges will present topics on college selection, finding the right college for you, performing arts, athletics, and much more. This year's event will be held at TWCP; all juniors and their parents are encouraged to attend. More information will come throughout the spring, but save the date now!

The 7th Annual Paint the Path Pink 5K walk or run will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 9 a.m. at Mitchell Intermediate School. Come run in the 5K or walk the Alden Bridge Loop with your friends, family and pets to help end breast cancer! Registration is only $20 per person which includes our popular Paint the Path Pink log T-shirt seen all around The Woodlands! This year you can register your dog too. High school students who register can pick up their shirts at Mitchell beginning March 19 or pick it up at the event. Registration is 100% tax deductible. All proceeds go to the Avon Foundation a 501 3c public charity. Come early and bid on fabulous items in the Silent Auction on the front porch beginning at 8:30am and ending shortly after the last walker crosses the finish line. Help us reach our goal of $50,000 this year and again be one of the top fund raising teams in Houston for the Avon Walk where our team will walk the 2 day 39 mile walk. Let's ALL be “In it to End It!” Rising Ninth Grade Parent Help Night is Tuesday, February 18 beginning at 4 p.m.

Tough K-6 School

Coulson Tough didn't let the weather stop them and completed a successful Boosterthon Fun Run on February 10. The students and teachers had a great time running and dancing around the laps to raise money for their school. Each year Coulson Tough students raise money to provide college scholarships to high school seniors who attended Coulson Tough.

On Friday, February 21 students can donate change to the scholarship fund and wear a hat for the day. Can't wait to see all the crazy hats!
